There was a bit of a problem with Halloween, you see, on the actual day of Halloween, the Saturday, there was a BIG football game at Tiger's Stadium, just up the road. Now I've already told you about the huge crowds who attend these games, the tailgaters and the traffic etc, so it was decided to move the trick or treating back to Friday . There was a poll, which was 60%in favour of doing it but I think only 24 people actually voted.
The morning started very hot and humid, but in the blink of an eye, the wind changed and suddenly it was sort of freezing and raining. Canette made a big pot of chicken chilli, which simmered away all day, and as 6o'c came round, we all jumped into our costumes and the fun began. We lit the candles in the pumpkin lanterns, and filled our big bowl with candy, and all sat our on the porch ... two gorgeous witches and a funny clown and an ordinary person dressed just like Christopher. The local gang , under the direction of the big brother from next door, set off with their candy bags and we big folk waited on our trick or treaters, they came walking, in little red wagons pulled by dads dressed up as Indians , they came in golf buggys as characters from over the rainbow, there were home made costumes and scarey masks , there were dads with torches and big umbrellas. because, yes, it was pouring rain and freezing cold. There was one particular witch who was very glad of her snuggie.
We big folk, and there were a few of us, cowered on the porch, eating chilli and drinking beer and stealing candy from the bowl. It was a fun night and I didn't know there was so much candy in the world.
As a result of talk at the Halloween party, we were given 4 free tickets for the football. What an event! Chif and Luke and Paul and I went and Canette and James did Halloween all over again. We tail gated at Mr Jimmy's and then rode in his truck to the game. He has a prized parking place, inherited from his mother, the former Golden Girl, Miss Generieve. The seats were in the 2nd row back from the fence. The huge band played, the cheer leaders performed right in front of us, Mike VI , the real live tiger mascot of the LSU Tigers, actually stopped right there,It was Alumni weekend and the big reunion of all the Golden Girls [who decorate the place and sort of dance] there were girls there who dated from the 1950s, and the band was bolstered by a further 200 former band members. At half time, there was 750 people one the arena, dancing, playing, doing flag stuff and tossing batons, Oh and there was a game on too, which LSU won, 42/nil, with a couple of touch down happening right in
front of us. WOW WOW WOW!!!
Well folks that just about completes the adventures of Moppy and Poppy in Baton Rouge, we are on the home run; one last game of the boy's soccer, a little more shopping today , a drive with Chif tomorrow and homeward bound Wednesday. Who won the Melbourne Cup??? See you Friday.
